FAQ

1. What is FORTIGEL® ?
FORTIGEL® builds joint cartilage, thereby targeting the cause of joint discomfort
and osteoarthritis.

FORTIGEL® is:

  • a combination of high-purity bioactive collagen peptides, i.e., a protein,
  • a food product,
  • a natural substance,
  • an ideal ingredient for industrial processing thanks to its excellent safety profile and specially-developed properties.

2. How does FORTIGEL® work?
FORTIGEL® builds joint cartilage, restoring flexibility and preventing damage to
joints. FORTIGEL® stimulates cell metabolism in joint cartilage, promoting the
synthesis of Type-II collagen, which is responsible for the elasticity of the joint
cartilage complex. It also works by increasing the production of aggrecan, a
special proteoglycan that is especially important for cartilage function. As a major
component of the extracellular matrix (a membrane that exists between the cells),
proteoglycans provide structural stability to the cells of an organism.

3. How can FORTIGEL® be used?
FORTIGEL® is a food product. Its quality and safety are documented by several international certificates.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified FORTIGEL® as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).

FORTIGEL® is very easy to formulate. Thanks to its neutral taste and smell, it is perfect for use in a variety of products such as solid food, beverages or dairy products. It is also ideal as a dietary supplement ingredient. Positive effects on joint health can be achieved even at low dosages.

4. Who are the target groups for products containing FORTIGEL® as an ingredient?
FORTIGEL® is ideal for all age groups, but especially those people experiencing some form of cartilage degradation. FORTIGEL® has been clinically and scientifically proven to regenerate joint cartilage. Taking FORTIGEL® counteracts joint cartilage wear caused by the normal aging process or through strain from sports or work.

5. What scientific evidence is there of the efficacy of FORTIGEL®?
Several pre-clinical and clinical studies prove that FORTIGEL® stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue.

Most recently, a clinical study by Harvard Medical School and Tufts Medical Center in Boston proved the efficacy of FORTIGEL® using MRI. These never-before-seen images showed the formation of proteoglycan, an important component of cartilage, as a result of taking FORTIGEL®.

The results are supported by experimental cell studies performed by the Collagen Research Institute (CRI) in Kiel, Germany. In cooperation with Kiel University, the CRI researchers proved the efficacy of FORTIGEL® in cartilage cells.

6. Who manufactures FORTIGEL®?

FORTIGEL® was developed by GELITA AG, the world’s leading manufacturer of collagen peptides. For more than 25 years, this international company, headquartered in Eberbach/Neckar, Germany, has been involved in investigating the effects of collagen peptides on joint health.
