Chronic Joint Discomfort (CJD) and Osteoarthritis (OA)
An average of 25% of the world’s population suffers from CJD. In the US alone,
70 million people are affected by CJD. Of those 70 million individuals, 16 million
have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease in the world. Clinical symptoms may
include: pain, tenderness, stiffness, inflammation, swelling and difficulty moving.
Persons who are overweight, who have had repeated injuries, past fractures, or who
overuse or constantly strain certain joints are at high risk of OA. In addition, 50% of
physically active people suffer from some form of joint discomfort. The elderly are
particularly affected.
Due to changing demographics, the number of people with joint discomfort and
osteoarthritis is expected to rise sharply in the coming years.
